one the UK’s most majestic natural landmarks at any time of year, Durdle Door’s magnificence is heightened for a few weeks either side of the Winter Solstice.
Thanks to the way the Earth moves on its axis, the opportunity to photograph the sunrise through Durdle Door only exists for a few minutes each day from mid-December to early January.
The phenomenon is similar to that of the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge, when the sun sets in alignment with the stones.
